David Beckham stresses the importance of family amid coronavirus pandemic

David Beckham and his wife Victoria have stressed to fans the importance of family amid the coronavirus pandemic. 

The former footballer, 44, shared an impassioned post to Instagram that urged fans to look out for one another and stay safe, as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread.

Referencing his newly launched club Inter Miami’s games being postponed due to the outbreak, David told his followers that sport must ‘take a back seat’, as health and loved ones are more important.

He wrote: ‘It’s times like these when we are reminded of the things that are truly important in life. Our health, our loved ones and looking after those that need support in our communities. 

‘In these moments, sport takes a back seat. We must all listen to expert advice and do the right thing. Stay safe and look out for yourselves and your families #LaFamilia.’

David’s caption accompanied a picture of Inter Miami’s new stadium.     

Victoria then reiterated David’s message, as she shared a picture of herself and David together on the pitch. They are parents to Brooklyn, 21, Romeo, 17, Cruz, 15 and Harper, eight.

She wrote: ‘The family and I are here in Miami for the launch of @davidbeckham’s team. At times like this, the most important thing is to be with loved ones and to support each other. Let’s listen to the experts and stay safe x kisses from us all.’

The couple have been joined by some of their brood over in the US and Romeo shared a video of himself and brother Cruz running around Inter Miami’s pitch, now the stadium is empty.  

David had recently just launched Inter Miami and the team made their MLS League debut at the beginning of March. 

David was joined by wife Victoria and their eldest son Brooklyn, 21, in the director’s box, as well as their celebrity pals Gordon and Tana Ramsay, Liv Tyler and her husband Dave Gardner and actress Eva Longoria.

Inter Miami suffered a 1-0 defeat by LAFC fans, but David didn’t seem to be disheartened as he told fans his team had ‘done him proud’ during their opening game. 

He said: ‘Very proud moment for our club today and the team did us proud… It’s been a long journey but this is only the beginning … To Diego (The Boss) the team and our entire staff… we should be very proud how far we have come and what the future holds… Exciting times ahead.’

It was recently announced that the MLS League has made the decision to suspend all games for the next 30 days, due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

David had been looking forward to launching the team, which reportedly landed a $180million sponsorship deal with Qatar. 

He had told fans that his ‘dream was becoming a reality’ while unveiling Inter Miami’s stadium at the beginning of February.

David is currently over in Miami after celebrating his son Brooklyn’s birthday at home in the UK. He and Victoria threw Brooklyn a lavish party, reportedly costing $100,000, in the Cotswolds for their celebrity friends. 

In attendance had been former Spice Girls Geri Horner and Emma Bunton and Stormzy made a surprise appearance, performing for Brooklyn and other party-goers on the night. 

Alongside a series of loved-up pictures of herself and David, Victoria revealed that guests had partied until 6am at the bash. 

She wrote: ‘Dancing till 6am! Kisses and happy 21st birthday X I love u so much @davidbeckham.’

Paying tribute to Brooklyn on his milestone birthday, Victoria gushed: ’21 years ago today the most beautiful soul came into the world and changed our lives forever. Sensitive, sweet, kind and funny, you are our everything. I love you so much.’

David, meanwhile, said: ‘Happy 21st to my big boy what more can I say about you other than you have grown into the most beautiful human being and that makes dad so proud.

‘You are kind , passionate and caring and as a father that’s what you want to see in your son… We have had so many great moments as a father and son together like lifting trophies in all the places that I won them and for me that was always my dream … I love you bust have the most amazing day because u deserve it.’ [sic]
