Celebrity snapper turned detective to hunt down stolen £17,500 Range Rover by requesting CCTV then spotting it 14 times on London streets… after Met Police closed theft case in 48 hours

  • David Hogan’s Range Rover was taken from outside his flat in Musell Hill, London 
  • He reported it to the police but was told 48 hours that it couldn’t be recovered 
  • Mr Hogan then contacted British Transport Police to get nearby CCTV footage
  • The investigation was reopened after he spotted his car being driven 14 times 

A celebrity photographer turned detective and hunted down his stolen £17,500 Range Rover after police close the case within 48 hours. 

David Hogan, 59, from Muswell Hill, north London was told that there was no chance of recovering his 4×4 after it was stolen.  

Undeterred, the photographer contacted Transport for London applied for CCTV footage. 

He discovered it had been caught on camera 14 times while being driven through local streets.

The Met confirmed it reopened its investigation following Mr Hogan’s discovery. 

Speaking afterwards, he said: ‘It’s like they’ve given up on car crime.’

The Range Rover was stolen from outside his flat last month.

Police called him two days after the theft was reported to say it was ‘unlikely that it will be possible to identify those responsible’.

Scotland Yard said: ‘Although the case was assessed and closed on Monday, July 27, it was reopened on July 29 after officers spoke with the victim and learned of new evidence.’

No arrests have yet been made.

Mr Hogan is a celebrity photographer who has worked with several top stars. 

He has been pictured with singer Myleene Klaas.
