Her face was beautifully made up for the scene, while she wore a simple diamond earring as her only accessory.

In between takes, she put on a face shield in accordance with the latest filming regulations amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Her sculpted leg could be seen peeking out of the long dress’s slit, as could the comfortable Ugg boots she substituted her heels with while the cameras were down.

Zoe was joined on set by her co-stars Danielle Deadwyler, Eugenio Mastrandrea, Keith David, Judith Scott and others for the celebratory scene.

Saldana will star in and executive produce the limited series, which is described as an autobiographical romance that follows an American woman as she falls in love with a Sicilian man while studying abroad in Italy then builds a life with him in the United States.

When she unexpectedly loses him to illness, she is challenged to pull herself through grief so she can raise their daughter as they would have raised her together: with hope, joy and infinite love, according to Variety.

Reese Witherspoon is co-executive producing the show, which is based on Tembi Locke’s memoir of the same title, after selecting it as Reese’s Book Club x Hello Sunshine May 2019 book pick.

‘This is a profound true story of love and family, deprivation and nourishment, that needs to be brought to life on the screen as Tembi Locke brought it vividly to life for me on the page,’ Saldana said when the project was announced in November 2019.

‘We are grateful to Netflix and thrilled to be working with Reese, Lauren, Attica and 3 Arts on this wonderful project,’ she added.

‘Tembi’s memoir is a raw and tender exhibition of life in all its pieces. She brings you into her love, her loss and her resilience with such vulnerability and strength. We immediately fell for Attica and Tembi’s vision and feel honored to have the opportunity to help bring it to life on-screen. We could not imagine more perfect partners for this than Zoe and her sisters and 3 Arts Entertainment, along with the incredible team at Netflix,’ said Witherspoon.

This marks the first regular television role of Saldana’s career after being best known for her work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the rebooted Star Trek film series.

The star is clearly excited to be back at work after spending most of 2020 at home with her family.

According to her, prior to the pandemic, she and her husband, Italian artist Marco Perego, barely had time for each other. ‘Until now, we were the “20 minute family” — always running off to school, to karate practice, or to work,’ she told Flaunt Magazine in March.

‘Then suddenly the waters calmed, the music stopped, and the phones stopped ringing. It was very raw and very beautiful,’ she added.

The couple share three children: twins Bowie and Cy, six, and her younger son Zen, four.

Although she is often away on big film sets, Zoe added that she relishes being home with her husband and children in a more old-fashioned maternal role.

‘I want to be home, because that role is becoming more real to me. I’m becoming more passionate about it than any other role I can play.’
