Erling Haaland hints he will STAY at Borussia Dortmund this summer by being ‘respectful’ to contract

Is the Haaland summer scramble OFF? Erling hints he will stay at Borussia Dortmund this summer, insisting he will be ‘respectful’ to the three years left on his contract despite interest from City, Real and Barcelona

  • Erling Haaland has scored 57 goals in 59 games for Borussia Dortmund
  • The Norway striker’s contract at Signal Iduna Park runs until summer 2024
  • And he has said he will be ‘respectful’ towards the remaining years on his deal
  • Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in signing Haaland

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has hinted he will turn down approaches from Europe’s biggest clubs this summer to stay in Germany.

Haaland, 20, has had an astonishing rise in the last two campaigns, scoring 57 goals in 59 appearances for Dortmund since joining from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.

Reports suggest the Norway star has a £68million release clause – which becomes active next year – in his contract, currently running until 2024.

And in an interview with NENT, Haaland insisted he would abide by the current terms of his deal – which reportedly includes wages of around £140,000-per-week –  and suggested he will not force an exit.

‘I have a contract for a couple of fine years, so I am respectful towards my contract,’ Haaland said.

Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are among the high-profile clubs interested in signing the forward, who led Dortmund to the German Cup title earlier this month.

The Bundesliga giants were also in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification, but four goals and an assist in his last three league games saw them make the top four.

And having won silverware this season, Haaland claimed his goal is simply to repeat such an achievement with more trophies in the near future.

‘It was really important [to qualify for the Champions League],’ he added.

‘I am a simple guy. When I like something I just want to have more. When I score a goal, I always chase the next goal.

‘I have big dreams. I just won my first major trophy and it was a great feeling. I want to win more.’

Sportsmail revealed City’s interest earlier this month, with the Norwegian likely to be a cheaper and younger option than first-choice target Harry Kane.

Meanwhile, earlier this week Diario AS claimed Real are at the front of the queue and will have priority over whether or not they sign him.

The report claimed the excellent relationship shared by Dortmund chief executive Hans Joaquim Watzke and his Real counterpart Florentino Perez has put the Spanish giants in pole position.

Reports however in Spain suggested Real Madrid are in pole position due to Florentino Perez’s relationship with Hans-Joachim Watzke

Haaland is said to be very keen on wearing the iconic white shirt of Real but a move this summer might be unlikely.

It’s claimed Dortmund and Mino Raiola, Haaland’s agent, have a verbal agreement not to sell the Norwegian star before the summer of 2022 and he is willing to wait 12 months to join Real, which seems to have been reinforced by his comments.

Raiola was also spotted at the beginning of April landing in Barcelona for talks over a move for Haaland, but the latest reports in Spain suggest a transfer for this summer at least has been ruled out.
