Tyron Woodley is set to pocket a career-high payday when he makes his boxing debut later this summer and takes on YouTuber Jake Paul.
The former UFC champion, 39, has agreed to step into the ring to face undefeated internet star Paul, 24, who knocked out Woodley’s old training partner Ben Askren in April.
Woodley reigned as welterweight king for over two years, in which he defended his title on five occasions, pocketing approximately $500,00 for each defence.

However, the 39-year-old’s manager has confirmed that Woodley will pocket a seven-figure sum when he makes his boxing debut against Paul, after The Problem Child hit out at UFC chief Dana White for failing to pay his fighters a fair wage.
‘He’s getting paid really well,’ Malki Kawa told MMA Fighting. ‘It’s one of the best deals I’ve ever done.
‘For a guy in his situation, it was a tremendous deal – he’s getting a large base number. He’s getting a cut of the pay-per-view globally.

‘He’s participating in a lot of different things. He should walk away with a multi-million dollar payday. His base guarantee is in the millions already. Add on all the extra stuff, it’s a really nice payday.’
The fight has been on the cards since Paul’s sensational victory over Askren in Atlanta, Georgia, in which Woodley and the social media influencer clashed backstage in the build up.
Woodley has been released by the UFC after losing four fights on the spin, and Kawa added that talks had been ongoing for some time.
‘We worked back and forth for a good amount of time,’ Kawa continued. ‘S*** got ugly sometimes, other times it was pleasant.

‘We just got to a point where we felt comfortable with it and Jake is probably making the lion’s share of the money, which he is, but nonetheless for Tyron, this is a real good day for him.’
If Paul v Woodley emulates the PPV figures that Paul v Askren garnered, the Missouri-born fighter will pocket a very lucrative payday indeed. Triller Fight Club, who promoted the fight, reportedly sold 1.5m pay-per-views.
At £35 per buy, a one per cent share of the PPV equates to £525,000 which would eclipse Woodley’s earnings with the UFC, added to the base sum he is already guaranteed.
Kawa also confirmed that there is a rematch clause in the pair’s contract, so that in the event that Paul is handed his first professional defeat he has the opportunity to take on Woodley again.
