Specialist police officer, 49, is charged with having child abuse material – but he’ll still receive his pay

  • He has been suspended with pay while the charges are heard in court  


A NSW Police sergeant is suspended but still receiving his salary after being charged with possessing child abuse material.

The 49-year-old was arrested at Georges Hall in Sydney’s south-west on Wednesday.

He was charged at Liverpool Police Station and granted conditional bail.

Police also searched the property where he was arrested, seizing electronic storage devices.

NSW Police said its professional standards investigators started a probe into allegations that child abuse material was being stored and distributed on an electronic device in May.

They seized a mobile phone and other items as part of the investigation.

Another man, 62, was also arrested as a result of the investigation.

He’s been charged with using a carriage service for child abuse material and possessing the material.

The sergeant, who is attached to a specialist command, will appear at Liverpool Local Court on June 21.

The other man will appear at Burwood Local Court on July 13.
