Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been rewarded with a new contract that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2024, as Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud also agreed new deals.

The German, who led Chelsea to Champions League glory in Porto, signed an initial 18-month deal when he replaced Frank Lampard in January.

As reported by Sportsmail last month, the club were keen to secure his services for the longer term and yesterday Tuchel’s extended deal was confirmed.

‘There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation,’ Tuchel said.

‘I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.’

Chelsea were ninth in the Premier League when Tuchel, 47, arrived following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain.

With 19 wins in his 30 matches, he led Chelsea to a second Champions League title, fourth place in the Premier League and the FA Cup final.

Should Tuchel see out his three-year deal, he would become the longest serving manager under Roman Abramovich.

The Blues have also exercised options to extend the contracts of 36-year-old defender Silva and 34-year-old striker Giroud, both for an extra year.
