Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been honoured for his charity work with an incredible mural in his hometown of Bootle.
Carragher’s 23 Foundation has helped raise £3million for causes across Merseyside over the last decade, with the mural a thank you for their contribution to the city.
The work of art, which was designed by MurWalls, features Carragher wearing an Everton shirt during his childhood alongside a picture of him lifting the Champions League trophy as a Liverpool player in 2005 – with the caption ‘From Bootle to Istanbul’.

There is also a tribute to the 96 fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough, with an image of the Liverpool and Everton mascots with the numbers ‘9’ and ‘6’ on their backs.
Carragher spoke of his pride as the mural was unveiled on Friday.
‘It’s big, it’s bold and we’ve got the colours of both teams in the city on it, so it’ll keep more than half of them happy!’ Carragher told the ECHO.
‘There’s a big Everton community here as well as Liverpool, so it’s one of those ones that will hopefully keep everyone happy.

‘This is a big thank you to the 23 Foundation for all the work they’ve done over the last 10 years or so, but more specifically over the last 12 to 18 months through the pandemic.
‘It’s been tough for people around here. Bootle is a really tough upbringing for anyone, I wouldn’t change it for the world, I was exactly the same, but it’s not easy for families and kids especially.’
The 23 Foundation has helped thousands of familes during the pandemic, providing over 10,000 meals to people in Bootle and the surrounding areas.

They also work to help schools and grassroots football, with their slogan ‘giving kids a chance’ written alongside the imagery on the mural.
Carragher added that he was proud the mural had been placed in Bootle.
‘I go back to being from here, it’s a great place to grow up in, Bootle, I love it to bits. So it is only right that [the mural] is here and hopefully it can inspire other young people as well.
‘But as I say, I am very lucky and this is a very proud day for me and my family as well. So it’s a big thank you to everyone.’
