Alvaro Morata will stay at Juventus on loan from Atletico Madrid for another season, the Serie A club confirmed on Tuesday.

Morata, who is currently with the Spain squad at the European Championship, spent last season on loan in Turin, and the clubs have come to an agreement that he can stay for another year.

The 28-year-old scored 20 goals across all competitions for Juventus last season as the reigning Serie A champions endured a difficult campaign, finishing fourth in the standings.

Juve retain the option to buy the Spaniard at the end of his second year on loan, with a future at Spanish side Atletico looking very unlikely. He rejoined Atletico in 2019 from Premier League club Chelsea.

Morata spent a first spell at Juventus between 2014 and 2016. Across the two stints in Turin, Morata has made 137 appearances and scored 47 goals.

‘Being here once again is really very nice. Today, I am much older as a person and as a footballer. I’m in the right place at the right time, I come back with more experience than the first time,’ Morata told the club’s website on his return last summer.

According to Cadena SER, Juventus have paid Atletico an £8.6m loan fee to extend Morata’s stay in Turin.

The Spaniard will return to a Juve side under new management, with Massimiliano Allegri returning to the club following the departure of Andrea Pirlo.

The 28-year-old scored 27 goals over 93 games under Allegri and will hope to carry over his strong goals tally from last campaign as Juve bid to dethrone Inter as Serie A kings.

Morata failed to demonstrate his ability on the European stage after firing blank for Spain as they were held 0-0 by Sweden in their opening game of the tournament.
