EURO 2020: MARK CLATTENBURG: Artur Soares Dias is an excellent operator for England’s final game

MARK CLATTENBURG: Artur Soares Dias, who will officiate the Three Lions’ game against the Czech Republic, is no stranger to English football after overseeing big games in Europe this season and is an excellent operator

Portuguese referee Artur Soares Dias takes charge on Tuesday night and he’s no stranger to English football.

He oversaw Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City games in the Europa League and Champions League last season.

They’re always big games to oversee, and he won those appointments because he’s an excellent operator.

You might recall how Soares Dias was the referee who showed Dani Ceballos a second yellow in Arsenal’s Europa League semi-final first leg, before dismissing Villarreal’s Etienne Capoue in that same game — both of which were correct calls.

Soares Dias oversaw Wales’ 2-0 win over Turkey in Baku last week. Now he’s in town to walk out at Wembley.
