The popularity of Justin Narayan, who has not been a favourite to win, has raised some suspicions among fans.

It is also being considered unusual that tattoo artist Pete, who has been considered a frontrunner, has dropped into the third position.

According to The Australian, the finale was filmed on Wednesday May 12 and into the early morning of May 13.

Previously, two finale results were filmed to conceal the winner, however this was reportedly not done this year.

Two sets of finales has been unpopular, and are considered by many a tortuous process for the losing contestant.

The Australian reports that ‘within a few hours of the end of the filming’ Justin emerged as a favourite to win, leading to rumours of a leak, with claims the production is ‘attempting to get to the bottom of the unusual betting activity.’

It comes as ratings for MasterChef Australia plummet, with 626,000 tuning in last week.

The show has struggled to maintain last year’s huge numbers this season without the star power of returning contestants like Poh Ling Yeow.

MasterChef: Back to Win pulled in more than one million viewers a night last year.

MasterChef Australia continues Tuesday from 7.30pm on Channel 10.
