Everton winger Bernard ‘in talks with UAE clubs over a summer move’

Everton winger Bernard ‘set for Goodison Park exit as he enters talks with UAE clubs over a summer move’ with the Toffees looking to cash in on the Brazilian, who is in the final year of his deal

  • Everton forward Bernard is reportedly in talks with a number of UAE clubs
  • The 28-year-old had fallen out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti last season
  • Now the Brazilian is looking to leave Goodison Park after three years at the club
  • The Toffees are looking to trim their wage bill and will listen to offers for Bernard

Everton forward Bernard is reportedly ready to bring the curtain down on his time at Goodison Park and is in talks with several clubs from the United Arab Emirates over a summer move.

The 28-year-old fell out of favour under former Toffees boss Carlo Ancelotti last season and started just three league games after struggling with consistency.

Now in the final year of his deal, Everton are ready to cash-in on the player they signed for free in 2018, with UAE side Sharjah one of the club’s interested in Bernard, according to The Athletic.

Andros Townsend’s arrival from Crystal Palace may have signalled the end for Bernard, who was linked with a move away in January but a move UAE club Al-Nasr collapsed.

New Everton boss Rafa Benitez has been told to trim the club’s bloated wage bill and that Bernard will most likely leave if a suitable offer comes in.

Bernard has managed just five Premier League goals in three years at the club.

Along with Townsend, who worked under Benitez at Newcastle, Bayer Levekusen’s Demarai Gray is also being linked with a move to the Merseyside club.

The Athletic are also reporting that the 25-year-old completed his medical on Wednesday ahead of completing a £1.5million move.

Benitez will look to better the Italian’s 10th place finish in 2020-21, and is looking towards two stars with Premier League experience for help.

Gray only left Leicester City in January in a deal of around £3m, but only managed a single goal and five starts for the Bundesliga outfit.

The 25-year-old has a Premier League title and 133 top-flight appearances to his name but is yet to realise his early potential, having caught the eye in Birmingham City’s academy, much like Jude Bellingham a few years later.

Benitez’s next priority looks set to be between the sticks, nearing the signing of Asmir Begovic from Championship side Bournemouth.

The former Chelsea, Yeovil, AC Milan and Qarabag keeper will provide solid backup for England hero Jordan Pickford.
