Michael Dawson insists Manchester City will be untouchable if they sign Harry Kane from Tottenham

Money talks: Former Tottenham skipper Michael Dawson insists Manchester City will be be untouchable if they sign Harry Kane in £160m transfer coup

  • Former Tottenham player Michael Dawson expects Man City to sign Harry Kane
  • Dawson believes Spurs will be unable to refuse a reported £160m bid for Kane
  • ‘I hope he stays, but with those kind of figures,  he might leave,’ Dawson said

The Premier League’s top clubs will find it practically impossible to catch Manchester City if they can prise Harry Kane from Tottenham, according to former Spurs captain Michael Dawson.

City stormed to the last season’s title and finished 12 points clear of second-placed Manchester United, and Dawson believes the coming campaign’s title will be a near forgone conclusion if the champions can add Kane to their already formidable squad.

‘If Man City sign Harry Kane, you’ll think, ‘how can any team get near them?”, Dawson told Talksport.

Signing Harry Kane would make Manchester City almost untouchable, says Michael Dawson

According to reports, City are ready to offer Tottenham £160m to sign Kane, who  dropped several hints over the last season that he is ready to leave in pursuit of trophies.

Former defender Dawson, who spent nine seasons at Spurs, believes such an offer would be impossible for chairman Daniel Levy to refuse.

‘He’s a goalscorer and I love him and I hope he stays, but with those kind of figures, it looks like he might leave,’ he added.

‘I always said if someone is going to get Harry, you’ll be paying top money for him. I know Daniel Levy and every player has got a price.

‘I said it would be a £150m-plus and it looks like it’s going to be that. It could only be one or two clubs who could afford him.

‘Manchester City seem like they’re going to be the team [to sign Kane].

‘They have a bottomless pit and if they want a player they tend to get them because money talks.’

Kane finished top scorer in the Premier League last season with 23 goals to collect the Golden Boot for a third time, despite Spurs finishing a disappointing seventh.

But the England forward is desperate to win trophies after failing to lift a single piece of silverware since breaking into the Spurs first team in 2013.

City have won three of the last five Premier League titles and after reaching the Champions League final last season and winning the League Cup for a fourth year in a row, they look like the best place for Kane to head to finally win silverware.

Joining Pep Guardiola’s side would also help Kane realise another dream of becoming the all-time top scorer in the Premier League.

He is currently seventh on the list on 166 goals, and at 27 years old, has plenty of time to topple Alan Shearer’s record of 260 strikes.
