Tokyo Olympics: Jamie Murray and Neil Shupski come from behind to take doubles victory

Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski fight back from early scare to take doubles victory against Argentinians Andres Molteni and Horacio Zeballos to move to the second round at the Olympics

Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski were the final British players on court for the day in Tokyo and they saved a match point in a nail-biting 6-7 (3) 6-4 13-11 victory over Argentinians Andres Molteni and Horacio Zeballos.

The British pair were regular partners until the end of last year, when Murray decided to rekindle his partnership with Bruno Soares, and he was a late substitute for the Olympics after Dan Evans tested positive for coronavirus.

In their first match back together, Murray and Skupski had a rough start falling a set behind after a tense opener.

They found themselves 3-1 down in the second set and staring at an early exit, but finished strongly to finish 6-4 to take it to a third set.

Murray and Skupski were able to turn the match around and edging the tightest of tie breaks.

Skupsi competed with Murray on the ATP Tour last season while the pair also featured together for Great Britain at the 2019 Davis Cup.

They won their first title together at the Sofia Open in November and reached the finals of the Western and Southern Open, the Vienna Open and the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Murray’s younger brother, Andy, also advanced to the second round of the men’s doubles as he and Joe Salisbury beat Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert in straight sets.
