Leeds United and Crystal Palace hope to find out next week whether Chelsea are willing to let Conor Gallagher go on loan.

The Blues central midfielder impressed on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season, with numerous Premier League sides also including Newcastle keen on taking him on loan for the upcoming campaign.

Chelsea view him as part of their long-term plans and are unwilling to sell him permanently, but could sanction a loan to give him more top-flight experience.

Midfielder Lewis Bate, 18, also left Stamford Bridge for the Whites earlier this week and they hope Gallagher will follow the same path.

Promising teenager Bate signed for £1.5million and will go straight into the club’s U23 squad.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have let numerous academy players leave this summer, including Fikayo Tomori to AC Milan, Marc Guehi to Crystal Palace – both on permanent deals – and Billy Gilmour to Norwich on loan.

Leeds are signing Valerenga goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson this week, pending a work permit, and have opened talks for Celtic defender Leo Hjelde.

The 18-year-old Norwegian was in Celtic’s squad that faced West Ham on Saturday.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side are also monitoring developments with Manchester United’s Daniel James, with a move for Club Brugge winger Noa Lang looking expensive.
