Arsenal have been dealt a blow ahead of the new season with Mikel Arteta admitting that the injury Thomas Partey sustained against Chelsea ‘does not look good’. 

Midfielder Partey sustained an ankle injury in the first half against of Sunday’s 2-1 friendly defeat to the Blues following a collision with Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

He received treatment on the pitch for quite some time being being replaced by Granit Xhaka.

After the match, Arteta told reporters: ‘I just had a talk with the doc. He’ll have a scan tomorrow.

‘At the moment it’s not looking good because he was in pain and could not continue.’

It’s more frustration for Partey, who also missed a large part of last season following his high-profile move from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal play one final friendly against north London rivals Tottenham on August 8 before their Premier League campaign gets under way against newly-promoted Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium.
