Manchester City reportedly want Jack Grealish to tell his boyhood club Aston Villa that he wants to leave the club this summer.

The Daily Star have reported that City chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak is growing increasingly confident of signing the 25-year-old and wants Grealish to help push the move through by telling the West Midlands side he wants to leave.

Grealish has been on a break since his involvement with England at the European Championships.

With his Villa future under some doubt, he is set to hold talks with manager Dean Smith and club owners Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris.

The Aston Villa captain has made no public desire to leave his boyhood club, though it has been reported that he would be keen to complete a move to the Etihad.

Manchester City’s owners will press on with negotiations in the hope of completing a blockbuster deal this week.

Should the Premier League champions complete the signing, it could become the most expensive signing ever made by a British club.

Villa have no desire to sell their talisman unless the £100m valuation is met and will offer him a bumper new contract worth more than £150,000 a week in an effort to convince him to stay.

Grealish signed a new contract at Villa in September after being courted by Manchester United last summer.

Yet there is a growing acceptance that the £100m figure must be met by City before they can team Grealish in a dream midfield with his favourite Premier League player Kevin De Bruyne.

City have also been keen on signing Harry Kane this summer, though it could be tough to also sign the Tottenham striker.
