Georgina Haig steps in to play pregnant Rachel Rafter replacing Jessica Marais in Rafters reboot

Jessica Marais abruptly pulled out of the Packed to the Rafters reboot last month.

And on Wednesday, the actress’ replacement Georgina Haig was spotted filming outdoor scenes as a pregnant Rachael Rafter in Sydney.

Wearing a fake baby bump, Georgina appeared to slip right into the role once made famous by Jessica, and was seen interacting with co-stars including her on-screen mother Rebecca Gibney.

The show must go on! Georgina Haig, 31, (pictured) stepped in to play a pregnant Rachel Rafter on set in Sydney this week, after officially being announced as the replacement for Jessica Marais in the reboot of Packed to the Rafters

In one scene, Georgina and Rebecca (who plays Julie Rafter) appeared to have a tense showdown before finally ending the clash with a warm hug.

Elsewhere, Rebecca was seen walking arm-in-arm with Georgina.

Georgina wore an olive polka-dot blouse that highlighted her faux belly, along with a pair of black trousers.

The TV star finished the outfit with a long black trench coat and a pair of heeled black booties.

Rebecca meanwhile wore a floral print blouse and black trousers.

Returning star of the series Hugh Sheridan was also seen on set playing his iconic role of Ben Rafter earlier in the day.

Clad in a salmon button-up shirt, Hugh pulled a number of animated facial expressions as he filmed a scene.

Georgina was front and centre in the first promotional photo for the family drama this week, joined by actors Hugh Sheridan and Angus McLaren.

Georgina looks similar to Jessica and is only four years her junior, which means the decision to re-cast Rachel won’t be too disruptive for fans.

In February, Jessica, 35, announced her departure from Back to the Rafters.

In an official statement, her management said: ‘Jessica Marais has decided to step away from the new series Back to the Rafters for personal reasons.

‘She thanks everyone involved on the show for their ongoing support and love, especially her Rafter’s family, and sends them her very best wishes for the production.’

Back to the Rafters picks up six years after the sixth and final season of Packed to the Rafters, which aired in 2013.

‘Dave and Julie have created a new life in the country with youngest daughter Ruby, while the older Rafter children face new challenges,’ reads the official synopsis.

‘They might not be under the same roof, but the same honesty, love and laughter bonds them more tightly now than ever before.’

The show is being produced by Channel Seven but won’t air on free-to-air TV.

Instead it will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video later in 2020.
