Shaggy celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hot Shot with revamped version of the album

In honor of the 20th anniversary of Shaggy’s chart-topping album Hot Shot, the reggae legend is releasing an all-new version for fans.

The music icon, born Orville Richard Burrell, dished exclusively to DailyMailTV about the revamped album and the longevity of it’s most famous hit, It Wasn’t Me, while quarantining at his New York Studio.

Additionally, the 51-year-old also recently partnered with pal Sting for Twitch Stream Aid, to help raise money for the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Hit maker: Shaggy dished exclusively to DailyMailTV about re-releasing his smash album Hot Shot and the longevity of it’s most famous hit, It Wasn’t Me, while quarantining at his New York Studio (Pictured in October)

‘We wrote some really timeless records,’ Shaggy reflected on Hot Shot. ‘It Wasn’t Me is such a recurring record now for all these kids. It just resonates with all these younger generations – it continuously does.’

For the anniversary album, Hot Shot 2020, the hitmaker decided to make the infectious and familiar tune featuring Rikrok the very first track.

Two decades after Hot Shot topped charts for the first time, Shaggy is re-releasing several hits, including Boombastic, Angel and Oh Carolina, as well as four new songs.

He thought: ‘Why not just do these records that are huge anthems that are a part of peoples lives and their memories?’

Timeless: Shaggy is right about the tune continuing to feel fresh decades later - It Wasn't Me is already connecting with a younger generation as it recently popped up on Tik Tok

‘It brings us a little back to humanity of what we knew the world before this pandemic and what we can get back to,’ he said.

‘It’s crazy how they do it,’ he marveled at his remixed tune for Tik Tok. ‘All the kids are just … on it. It comes up in my DM and on my timeline so many times.’

‘So, like I said it just resonates with all these younger generations. It continuously does.’

One of the new tunes is a track recorded with English rockstar Sting, who he called on recently to join him in a digital performance to raise funds for COVID-19 relief with Twitch.

‘Sting was down for it,’ Shaggy said of his friend, who called in from England. He added that ‘it just kind of made sense.’

The toe-tapping track combines Sting’s recognizable voice with the reggae sound that Shaggy is known for the world over.

‘Reggae’s always that kind of music that make you feel like you’re on vacation,’ Shaggy said. ‘And I’m always in my vacation clothes and stuff even though it’s rough out there. I’m thinking like I’m on a beach every time.’

The new version of It Wasn’t Me is out now, and Hot Shot 2020 is coming soon.
