Miralem Pjanic is angling for a ‘sensational return to Juventus‘ having endured one of the most difficult seasons of his career at Barcelona

The Bosnian midfielder thrived under Massimiliano Allegri in Turin when the Italian, who recently returned to the helm after Andrea Pirlo‘s departure, led the team so successfully between 2014-19.

According to Tuttosport, Pjanic and Allegri are in regular contact and a return to Juventus is on the cards this summer.

They report that the 31-year-old considers his old manager to be a father-figure and will make himself available for a transfer.

Pjanic’s frustration at this season has been evident and he even took to social media a week ago to vent his displeasure.

He wrote: ‘Respect the team. Give everything on and off the court.

‘This is what you deserve@fcbarcelona This is what I have done with my teammates from day one.

‘This season leaves me with a bitter taste and questions that still seek answers. A hug To all the fans, see you soon. Força Barça always.’

Pjanic made 19 appearances for the club last season and only six of those were as a starter for Ronald Koeman.

The midfielder cost Barcelona £55million and Arthur Melo went the other way for £66m last summer. Neither player has flourished at their new clubs and the move has not worked out for anyone.

It remains to be seen whether Juventus would want to bring Pjanic back as his age profile and wage might not be a sensible option for the club.

They already have a number of top players into their thirties and Allegri will no doubt want to transition to a more youthful squad as the rebuilding begins.

The new head of operations Federico Cherubini and the hierarchy are set to discuss whether a return for Pjanic makes sense but it seems the player is in favour of the move.

Barcelona could be amenable as they have to raise funds this summer and remain in a dire financial situation, afflicted by more than £1billion of debt.

Koeman’s future is still undecided but if he stays in place at the Nou Camp, it will surely increase the chances of Pjanic moving on.
