Liverpool given transfer boost after midfield target Florian Neuhaus DENIES that he has signed a contract with Bayern Munich, with the Reds looking to replace Barcelona bound Georginio Wijnaldum

Liverpool‘s hopes of potentially signing Florian Neuhaus have increased after the midfielder denied he had already agreed a deal with Bayern Munich.

The Reds are on the lookout for a new centre midfielder, with out of contract star Georginio Wijnaldum all but set to join Barcelona on a free transfer after five years at Anfield.

Reports had suggested that Neuhaus had already agreed a move to the German champions from Borussia Monchengladbach but the 24-year-old has denied the claims.

‘I read that my move to FC Bayern in 2022 was already a done deal. I can clearly deny that here and now,’ he told TZ.

‘I haven’t signed a contract anywhere except with Borussia Monchengladbach. I feel very much at home there at the moment.’ 

Although Neuhaus admitted he was happy to remain at Monchengladbach, where this season he scored six goals in 33 Bundesliga appearances this term, he was open to moving to Munich during his career.

‘Home is a very important point for me. I can well imagine living in Markt Kaufering [an area close to Munich] again later.

‘But I also found a piece of home in Dusseldorf [on loan at Fortuna during the 2017-18 season], where I met my girlfriend, and I feel very comfortable at Gladbach.’

Neuhaus is part of the Germany squad for Euro 2020, and having picked up just five caps admits he is looking forward to the tournament now experienced campaigners such as Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels have been recalled to the side.

‘For Germany, the strongest players should always appear. I think we have a very good squad with a good mix,’ he added.

‘With Thomas and Mats, I wouldn’t always just emphasise their experience, they bring a lot more with them on and off the pitch.

‘They can simply give a lot to the team with their footballing qualities. They are also two good guys who bring a good atmosphere to the team.’
