While life on Lizard Island doesn’t come cheap – with room rates starting from around $1,500 – there is still plenty to see and do on the island that won’t set you back too much cash.

Many travellers on Instagram have shared snaps of their experiences doing everything from hiking to the top of the island at sunrise for 360 degree views to snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef in some of the best spots including Clam Garden and Blue Lagoon.

Others have enjoyed paddle boarding or a meal at the resort’s Salt Water Restaurant, which mainly features produce from Far North Queensland, as well as fresh seafood and a South East Asian twist.

Dishes are paired with wines hand selected for the resort by Australian sommelier and wine critic Jeremy Oliver.
