Arsenal MUST finally sign Wilfried Zaha this summer says Gunners legend Emmanuel Petit

Arsenal MUST sign ‘unpredictable’ Wilfried Zaha this summer because Crystal Palace winger is ‘exactly the player they need’, says Gunners legend Emmanuel Petit

  • Arsenal are once again being linked with Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha
  • The Ivory Coast star has told his club he wishes to depart in the summer window
  • Emmanuel Petit feels Zaha is ‘exactly what Arsenal need’ and is urging a deal
  • Everton and Tottenham have also been linked with the 28-year-old star

Arsenal have been urged to finally go and get a deal done for Wilfried Zaha this summer, by former Gunner Emmanuel Petit.

Once again Mikel Arteta’s side are being linked with a move for Ivory Coast international Zaha, who has made it clear he wants to move on from Crystal Palace this summer.

With north London rivals Tottenham said to be interested in the forward, along with Everton, Petit insists his former club should act now and buy Zaha because he is ‘exactly the player Arsenal need.’

Speaking this week to bookmakers Paddy Power, Petit said: ‘When I played for Arsenal in the late 90s, we had Marc Overmars, Sylvain Wiltord and Robert Pires – these players were so exciting to watch.

‘Zaha is an unpredictable player, you don’t know what he’s going to do with the ball.

‘He’s got a strong character, and sometimes he needs to control of his emotions, but he’s exactly the kind of player Arsenal need. He’d get the fans excited and stimulate his own team-mates too.

‘For ages, Arsenal haven’t had a player who could dribble or make a difference with the ball at his feet. With Zaha, they would have somebody capable of taking responsibility and not scared to take on defenders.’

Pressure is now on Arsenal to make an impression in the summer transfer window, after yet another disappointing season on the pitch.

An eighth-placed finish means Arteta’s side missed out on European football completely, and were unable to even clinch a place in the recently formed Europa conference league.

The Gunners are now viewed as falling behind their peers in the ‘big six’ of English football, and were dealt another blow this week after appearing to miss out on a top target to Aston Villa.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are battling over signature of Norwich forward Emiliano Buendia

As reported by Sportsmail, Villa are now closing on a club record £40million deal for Norwich City midfielder Emi Buendia.

The Villa Park side moved on Friday to head off competition from Arsenal by agreeing to pay £33m plus add-ons up to £40m for Argentine Buendia. The clubs have also agreed a sell on percentage.

Arsenal had offered £30m plus add ons after finding out Martin Odegaard would be beyond their reach last week as Real Madrid value him at £50m.
