Nuno Espirito Santo is reportedly on the verge of being appointed as the new manager of Crystal Palace, three weeks after leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Palace have conducted a thorough search for the successor to Roy Hodgson, with the veteran manager bidding farewell to his boyhood club at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

But according to The Telegraph, Nuno is Palace’s preferred target and the club and Portuguese, 47, are in advanced talks over an agreement, while an announcement could be made later this week.

The former Valencia and Porto boss’ arrival would be a real coup for the south Londoners, having done a magnificent job in the West Midlands with Wolves.

Nuno took over in the summer of 2017, with the club languishing in the Championship after a 15th-place finish.

The Portuguese secured promotion at the first time of asking before clinching back-to-back seventh place finishes in the top flight, as well as a Europa League quarter final appearance and a trip to Wembley for an FA Cup semi final.

However, injury-hit Wolves stagnated in Nuno’s fourth and final season at the club, leading to chairman Jeff Shi moving to freshen things up this summer and Bruno Lage is close to being appointed.

Nuno also reportedly held talks with Everton over their vacancy following Carlo Ancelotti’s exit, but Palace appear to be moving quickly to nab the Portuguese ahead of their rivals.
