‘What you want to say is, “it’s the first one I’ve even got an interview for and I’m desperate to land this”,’ he said.

He then continued on by explaining what you should probably say instead.

‘I have applied for a number of roles, this is a graduate entry role for me. I’ve been quite particular with the organisations and the opportunities that I’m looking to take on,’ he said.

Adding: ‘And this one aligns with both my values but also the career goals and adjectives I have set for myself.’

Mr Scott’s TikTok video on the subject has been liked more than 23k times and viewed more than 300k times.

With many comments from employers agreeing with the advice.

‘This man does not miss,’ one man said.

Other people tagged their friends, telling them to remember the advice.

But others disliked his response and said it sounded ‘too robotic’.

‘I really find it impossible to speak like this,’ one woman said.

‘You want to make the conversation flow naturally, we are all human,’ said another.

‘It is just a matter of balancing that with not coming off like a corporate  robot with no personality,’ another person said.

Even some hiring managers expressed concern.

‘As a manager I hate these answers. Just be honest, tell me that your current job is missing something, or that you prefer the industry we are in,’ one woman said.

‘Or tell me that it is your first role out of university. I hate corporate answers.’
