A mum has revealed how her clever 16-year-old daughter showed her how their handheld cheese greater could also be used as a knife to cut through cheese and vegetables.

The 55-year-old mum posted pictures on Facebook revealing the clever hack and admitting she was left feeling like a ‘twit’ for not knowing what the end of the grater was for.

‘My youngest asked if I knew the end of the small grater was for slicing,’ she said.

‘Apparently she worked it out herself when she notice the end looked sharpish.’

The girl has now been asked to be called ‘chef’ at home at all times.

Hundreds of people commented on the mum’s post to admit they also had no idea the bottom of their grater could be uses to slice things.

‘I am 39 years old, a good cook, I have travelled the world and this is news to me,’ one man said, impressed.

‘I’m 59 and cooked all my life in my job and never knew this,’ one woman said.

‘I just got up off my couch to see if mine was sharp too. It is. I have had it for years. Thanks chef,’ another woman said. 

Others simply thanked the ‘chef’ for passing on her tips.

‘I’d vote for you’re daughter to run this country based on that,’ one man said.

‘This is the sh*t that should be taught in schools,’ added another woman.

Others complained they had just spent money on cheese slicers before reading the informative post.

Some have been using the sharp edge for years and had tips of their own. 

‘It’s good for cutting cucumbers, tomatoes, onion and best till last, herbs. Keep it sharpened as you would your knives. Just don’t try to use it to spread butter on your bread,’ one woman said. 

And other mums revealed the kitchen hacks their children had revealed to them.

‘This reminds me of my youngest, about eight at the time, telling me the end of a potato peeler was for getting the eyes out. You learn something new everyday,’ one said.
