‘He called me and he said “Patrice, I’m going to sue you, how dare you disrespect…”, and he just started laughing,’ Evra explained.

‘He said “thank you, you made my day”. But at the time (as a player), Ferguson if I did that, he would cut my head. He was against it.’

Evra is former France international and his country are in action at Euro 2020 later on Wednesday evening against Portugal.

And if France finish second in their group, they will come up against England in the last-16, a rivalry which Evra explained that he used to enjoy while at United.

‘If France play against England, it’s going to be a massacre! Nah, I’m only joking,’ Evra said. ‘There’s a rivalry between France and England.

‘I remember some of my teammates, Rooney and Rio, were always praying for us (France) to lose. We have got this rivalry, but there is also a big respect.

‘No matter the winner, I would be a winner. Because I’m French, I would be sad if France lost, but also if England win, I would be happy. I’ve never had any problem when I’ve been in England. It’s a part of me.’
