Arsenal: Ben White admits interest is ‘nice’ but he hasn’t discussed future with England team-mates

Ben White admits interest from Arsenal is ‘nice’ but says he hasn’t discussed his future with his England team-mates as Gunners line up improved £45m bid plus £5m in add-ons for the Brighton defender

Brighton defender Ben White has admitted interest from Arsenal is ‘nice’ but says he has not been discussing his future in the England camp.

Sportsmail reported this week that the Gunners had made a bid of £45million with a further £5m in add ons for the 23-year-old, and while the Seagulls are holding out for £50m, a deal is expected to be agreed.

White, who was a late call-up into the Three Lions Euro 2020 squad after a strong season on the South coast, is thought to be keen on the move with talks continuing over the structuring of the deal.

When asked by talkSPORT of Arsenal’s interest, White said: ‘It’s nice, it’s happened quite a lot over the last two years, there’s been a lot of noise.’

However, when asked if he talks to his colleagues in the Brighton squad or England camp about the potential Arsenal transfer, White responded: ‘Not really.

‘You don’t know what’s true and what’s not. So there’s no real point talking about it.’

With his new status as an England international, White is likely to command a significant wage increase than the £35,000-per-week deal he agreed last summer with Brighton.

He was drafted in by Gareth Southgate for Euro 2020 following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s withdrawal and, while he hasn’t played in the tournament yet, he impressed in England’s two warm-up games.

The call-up was reward for an impressive season for Graham Potter’s side, while he was also an integral part of Leeds United’s promotion from the Championship in the previous campaign.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is eager for reinforcements to his back-line following David Luiz’s departure, and believes White could be the perfect solution.
