Trent Alexander-Arnold has admitted it’s disappointing to not be with the England squad at Euro 2020, but it has ‘put a smile’ on his face to see how well they’ve done.

The Liverpool star was originally selected for Gareth Southgate‘s 26-man squad after a lot of debate over whether he would make the team.

However, he was forced to pull out of the team when he limped off with an injury during their first warm-up victory over Austria and was replaced by Brighton defender Ben White.

Alexander-Arnold was interviewed by BBC presenter Gary Lineker at half-time of England’s 4-0 quarter-final victory over Ukraine.

The 22-year-old said: ‘It’s disappointing for me not to be there but at the end of the day, it still puts a smile on my face seeing the lads go far, the nation getting behind them – the supporters everywhere have been amazing.

‘To know all the lads and a do few weeks with them, they’re going to do us proud.’

Alexander-Arnold was kept out of the squad with a thigh injury and he has been undergoing intense rehab as he looks to make sure he is back in time for Liverpool’s pre-season.

He said: ‘Everyday is a new step, getting better and fitter and going into pre-season good. I have a few weeks of rest and then hitting the pre-season and trying to push on from there.’

Liverpool will hope to have their man back in time for the new season which gets underway for them with a trip to Carrow Road to face promoted Norwich on August 14.
