A mum has confessed she only had a baby for the sake of making her husband happy after she feared he would leave her for another woman.

The Australian woman said after her first marriage ended just after six months at the age of 24, she no longer had maternal feelings for starting a family.

But when she met her now-husband Ben in her late 30s, she was pressured into having kids with him as soon as possible.

Did you start a family just to make your partner happy?

‘I had lost all interest in being a mum. I was just exhausted by life… I didn’t see why being a parent was going to be this dream come true,’ she told 9Honey.

‘Ben didn’t accept the fact that I didn’t feel maternal. He thought I was probably eternally grateful to meet him and settle down before it was “too late” to have kids.’

The couple now share a two-year-old son who she ‘loves to bits’ but she feels she’s just ‘not cut out to be a good mother’.

‘I feel sometimes I do the bare minimum. I couldn’t wait to go back to work so my son has been in day-care from a very young age. Will I regret it when he’s older? I very much doubt that,’ she said.

Reflecting back at the last two years of her life, she admitted she only ever became a mum to fulfil her husband’s dream of starting a family.

‘I had a kind of fear that, if I didn’t make him a father, he might leave me for a woman who would. Don’t get me wrong, I love my son,’ she said.

But the mum revealed she would have preferred a kid-free life if her husband never pressured her into having a child in the first place.
