Brighton seal £18m signing of Enock Mwepu – nicknamed ‘The COMPUTER’ thanks to his ability to read the game – on four-year contract from Red Bull Salzburg, as Graham Potter hails midfielder’s ‘great deal of experience’

Brighton have signed Zambian international midfielder Enock Mwepu from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £18m.

The 23-year-old who is nicknamed ‘The Computer’ joined Salzburg in June 2017 from fellow Austrian side FC Liefering and made 119 appearances during his time at the club scoring 18 goals and getting 20 assists.

He has also won 12 caps for Zambia since making his debut in September 2017 and has scored two goals.

Manager Graham Potter said: ‘We’re delighted to be able to welcome Enock to the club and are looking forward to working with him.

‘He has a great deal of experience for somebody of his age, including Champions League and international football.

‘He’s primarily a central midfielder, although he is capable of playing in numerous positions, is open-minded, adaptable and very keen to learn and develop.

‘He will add competition to our existing options in that area of the squad going into the new season.’

Mwepu was nicknamed ‘The Computer’ by Salzburg supporters due to his ability to read the game.
