A mum-of-two has shared how she manages to save up to $500 on family holidays.

Britney, from Victoria, revealed she always purchases her children’s favourite breakfast cereals and snacks, including Milo and Coco Pops, ahead of time when she spots them on sale.

She also packs Nescafe coffee sachets and brings reusable 1.5L water bottles to prevent buying these necessities while on holiday.

‘Not sure if others do this but when I go on holidays with my kids, I purchase their favourite breakfast cereals when on sale BEFORE I go,’ Britney wrote on Facebook and shared an image of the cereal.

‘I then make us breakfast in the motel room every day to save money each day. These cereals, Milo, and coffee sachets were ALL 50 per cent off at the supermarket over the last few weeks.’

On her most recent family holiday, Britney said the motel they were staying in ‘didn’t have anything for the kids to eat’ or utensils to use, so she visited the local Kmart to buy $2 breakfast bowls and a $1.50 mug for her coffee.

‘I’m saving about $100 a day between breakfasts, drinks and some snacks,’ she said.

‘This holiday I’ve been away for two nights already and have at least another three nights here – that’s a saving of around $500.’

‘I do this too, usually I book a room with a kitchenette if possible and take ALL my discounted food with me, anything on sale, etc. sure saves a bundle,’ one mum said. 

Another added: ‘We did this too when our boys were little, we even packed lunches and water bottles. It saves $1,000 on a two-week holiday.’ 

‘A friend gave me the idea of taking a picnic basket with bowls, mugs and crockery, can opener, wine, bottle stopper, spoons, sugar, etc. on our travels. Best advice EVER!!’ a third said.
