Dina Asher-Smith has pulled out of the Diamond League meet in Gateshead on Tuesday with a tight hamstring.
The development comes as a concern less than a fortnight before the beginning of the Olympics, but the 25-year-old insisted it was only a ‘precaution’.
The 200m world champion said: ‘As you all know, I love running in front of a home crowd but I have to make smart decisions for myself and my body ahead of Tokyo.

She is the 100m and 200m British record holder and plans to run both distances in Tokyo
‘I’m sorry to those who were hoping to see me run this week but I’m looking forward to making you all proud in a few weeks time.’
The 200m race in Gateshead was due to be Asher-Smith’s final race before heading to Japan. At the Olympics she will be a double medal hope in the 100m and 200m, as well as the 4x100m relay, on the back of an unbeaten season.
The tight hamstring follows a minor issue with her quadriceps in February which caused her to skip the European Indoors.
