Bondi Vet’s Dr Kate Adams reveals the reason she is still single at 38 – and why most men only like the ‘idea’ of dating beautiful women

  • She recently revealed she has trouble dating because men find her intimidating
  • Dr Kate believes men feel threatened by accomplished and successful women

The accomplished star of hit TV series Bondi Vet says she is still single because the majority of men are intimidated by successful women.

In a recent interview on news.com.au’s weekly podcast, Kinda Sort Dating, Dr Kate Adams, best known for her leading role on the popular Channel Nine programme, revealed she finds dating difficult because of her high-flying career.

The 38-year-old vet, who was engaged twice in her 20s before breaking both off,  argues while men may be attracted to beautiful, over-achieving women from a distance, the reality of being in a relationship with them is entirely different.

‘When they’re confronted with women [excelling in] traditionally male areas like business, they don’t know what to do,’ Dr Kate said.

‘I think sometimes it’s a little bit too much.’

Over the years, Dr Kate said she has realised there are a lot of men who are simply not interested in dating successful women.

‘There’s a dominance that exists when I’m at work…it’s what [pet] owners need in a crisis, for me to take control of the situation and make decisions,’ she explained.

‘I think these qualities are then perceived to be masculine…[but] underneath, I’m actually very feminine.’

Dr Kate said while she doesn’t believe she is dominant or ‘overly controlling’ in her personal life, men assume she will carry the qualities she needs to do her job into her romantic relationships.

She said she feels she is pigeonholed into a ‘Jennifer Aniston-esque stereotype’ of the highly successful and mature single woman who has been repeatedly unlucky in love.

Dr Kate admitted she has contemplated marrying someone and divorcing them, purely to escape this narrative.

Host Jana Hocking agreed, saying she has also felt pressure to settle down as a thirty-something-year-old woman.

In a separate interview with Adelaide Now, Dr Kate revealed she has been left to pick up the bill for her dates on more than one occasion.

The esteemed vet said it has happened so often at a restaurant or cafe, she would be ‘shocked’ if a man paid for her meal.
