Yulimar Rojas BREAKS 26-year-old world record with her final jump of Tokyo 2020 as she wins Olympic gold in the women’s triple jump

Yulimar Rojas set a new world record en route to winning gold in the women’s triple jump.

The Venezuelan catapulted herself to top spot with a 15.41m effort from her very first jump of the evening and, from her last attempt with gold already guaranteed, she put in 15.67m.

It was 0.17m better than the previous benchmark, set by Inessa Kravets in 1995.

Rojas was the strong favourite among the field and laid down a huge marker with her first jump.

Portugal’s Patricia Mamona landed a 15.01m jump that was enough to take silver, while Spain’s Ana Peleteiro won bronze with 14.87m.

Rojas improved on her Olympic silver medal at Rio in 2016, while she is also a two-time World champion from London in 2017 and Doha in 2019.
